Reposition windows when you connect or disconnect a monitor
Why are my windows a mess every time I dock or undock my laptop?
A workspace you can try
Undock your laptop at the end of the day: the app detects the screen change and offers to restore your workspace with the laptop profile. Dock it again tomorrow and it can offer the desk profile.
How to set it up
- Save a screen profile for each setup, such as laptop only and desk with monitors.
- Leave the workspace on automatic profile selection.
- Connect or disconnect a screen while the workspace is open.
- When "Screen change detected" appears, choose Restore workspace, or Not now to leave windows as they are.
When it helps
For people who move a laptop between a desk and other places, or whose external monitors are not always connected. It saves dragging every window back after each change.
What to check first
With manual profile selection nothing is proposed. A partial match between screens may ask you to choose. You can turn the prompt off so windows are repositioned automatically. Screen profiles and adaptation can depend on your plan.
Questions before you start
Does it move my windows by itself when I plug in a monitor?
By default it asks first ("Screen change detected"). If you prefer, you can turn that setting off so windows are repositioned automatically; both options need the workspace to use automatic profile selection.
What if my new screens only partly match a saved profile?
The app may show a proposal and ask you to choose, instead of assuming every monitor is equivalent.
