Snap windows into zones with the mouse

How can I snap windows into custom zones on Windows?

A workspace you can try

Divide your main monitor into three zones, put your editor in the large one and your terminal and notes in the others, then capture that arrangement as a workspace you can reopen.

How to set it up

  1. Activate a layout for that monitor and desktop.
  2. Drag the window by its title bar.
  3. Hold the configured zone modifier, usually Shift.
  4. Check the highlighted zone and release to snap.

When it helps

For anyone who arranges windows by hand all day and wants predictable zones. Because layouts connect with workspaces, a snapped arrangement can be saved and recovered.

What to check first

If no highlight appears, check that the zone engine is on, a layout is assigned to this desktop and monitor, and you are using the right modifier. An app running with elevated permissions may prevent a launcher with different permissions from moving it.

Questions before you start

Do I need a separate snapping tool?

No. The built-in zone engine provides the zone snapping workflow without installing another tool.

Can several windows share one zone?

Yes. Several windows can share a zone, and a selection can span several zones; check the highlight before releasing.
