The Omnibar and your custom actions
Open apps, arrange windows and launch your own projects and tools from one bar, without switching screens.
One bar for everything
The Omnibar is a bar that appears with your shortcut over whatever you are doing. Find an app, arrange windows, create a note, calculate, open your agenda or describe to the AI what you need; you can also dictate it with the microphone. Local actions work without AI.
Open it and explore
WhereSettingsOmnibarGeneral and shortcuts
- Assign your shortcut in Hotkeys and check that the Omnibar is enabled. In Settings → Omnibar you can try it and see its quick guide.
- Open it with your shortcut from any application.
- Type / to see the action catalog. Filter apps, windows and workspaces, find an action and press Enter to run it or fill in its details.
- Use Ctrlclick on a window to select it and ask for actions on it; you can select several.
Suggestions adapt to what you have open. With enough history and personalization turned on, you will also see frequent apps, saved workspaces and group proposals; the reason is explained and nothing opens until you choose it.
| Plan | What the Omnibar includes |
|---|---|
| Free | Apps, calculator and basic window actions |
| Plus | The complete local catalog: workspaces, utilities and your custom actions |
| Ultimate | Everything in Plus, with built-in AI: describe what you need and get ideas based on context |
Your tools, one command away
Besides the Windows actions, you can create your own: a short shortcut that launches a project, a script, a program, a link or a service you already have. Your tool stays outside Workspace Launcher: the app is only the gateway that calls it instantly, from any window, without searching for it. If your tool has its own logic, it keeps it.
Each action can be one of these types:
| Type | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Command | An instruction from your project (for example, starting the server or updating the repository) in its folder, in a terminal or in the background |
| Program | Start an application or tool, with the data you pass to it |
| File or folder | Open it with its usual app |
| Link | Open a website or an application link |
| Web service | Call your own automation or API and see its response in the Omnibar |
Create an action
WhereSettingsOmnibarCustom actions
- Press New action.
- Your action: give it a name, choose the command that will call it (for example "/web") and what it does.
- Connect: enter the folder and command, the program, the path or the address, depending on the type. For a command, choose the shell and whether it runs in a terminal or in the background.
- Review: check the "In your omnibar" preview and enable the connection on this PC.
For an action to accept data, mark that it receives text and add a hint and, if you like, parameter suggestions, such as project names. Choosing a suggestion fills the field without running anything. Then, in the Omnibar, type / and the command name (or filter by Custom), add the text and press Enter.
Custom actions require the Plus plan or higher. If on this PC an action shows Connect on this PC, its program or folder still needs to be linked here.
Let the AI prepare it
Above the list you will find Create with AI: describe one or several actions, answer whatever is missing and review the proposal before saving it. It needs a plan with AI and a configured provider; see providers and assistants.
Let your agent do it
Your AI agent can create these actions for you. When you connect it, it receives a guide that explains how, so you only need to tell it which project or tool you want at hand. See how to connect your agent. There are two separate permissions, and you decide them in the action itself:
- Enable this connection on this PC: lets you launch it from the Omnibar.
- Allow my agents to use this connection through MCP: lets your agent run it to help you. It is off by default.
Safety and limits
- The text you type after the command is never inserted into the command line: it travels separately, so symbols such as & or ; cannot alter the instruction.
- Connection data is stored encrypted on this PC and does not travel with your shared configuration. On another computer you will need to connect the action again.
- A program that starts is "started", not "completed": it may keep working in its own application. The output of a background action is shown as text and is limited in size.
- Actions run with your Windows permissions, with no automatic elevation. An agent cannot delete actions or run an arbitrary instruction: it only uses the ones you have authorized.
- You can export your definitions and import them on another computer: they include no paths, programs or credentials, and imported actions arrive unconnected until you connect them. There is a maximum of 200 actions.
For the other ways to give orders, see shortcuts, chat and the voice assistant.
